Enroll/Cost

All full-time learners are required to maintain adequate health insurance to protect against unexpected accidents and illnesses. All eligible learners are automatically enrolled in the university-sponsored learner health insurance plan, at no cost to the learner for individual coverage, unless they provide proof of comparable coverage and are approved for a waiver.

If you are a Postdoctoral Fellow enrolling a Domestic Partner or a child of a Domestic Partner in coverage you must contact JHU Benefits at [email protected] immediately. Under section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code, unmarried domestic partners are not recognized as dependents. Therefore, the fair market value of the health insurance benefits provided by the university for a domestic partner must be treated as taxable income. This means that taxes will be calculated on the difference in the premium for individual and two-party coverage that is paid by the university; this amount will be reflected on your pay statement.

To remove yourself or your dependent(s) from coverage due to a Qualified Life Event, click the button below to request cancellation of coverage for one of the following reasons:

• You experienced a Qualified Life Event*
• Your dependent(s) experienced a Qualified Life Event*
• Cancel Waiver – You previously waived coverage but changed your mind

*All requests to remove coverage due to a QLEs must be submitted within 30 days of the event date.
